Six Sigma
Six Sigma is a highly disciplined process that helps companies focus on developing and delivering near-perfect products and services. The word “Sigma” is a statistical term that measures how far a given process deviates from perfection. The central idea behind Six Sigma is that if you can measure how many "defects" you have in a process, you can systematically figure out how to eliminate them and get as close to "zero defects" as possible.
Six Sigma uses a set of quality management methods and creates infrastructure around people inside the company who are experts at these methods. Each Six Sigma project is delivered with a defined sequence of steps and quantifiable targets and are based on the defined goal.
LEAN
"Creating Value from Less Work" is a central focus of LEAN Manufacturing. The focus on perfection and the removal of waste from the business becomes a cultural transformation to the business rather than a staged set of processes.
Although originally incorporated into automotive manufacturing, LEAN principles have emerged in many industries to evoke organizational change. Basic education begins with discussion of types of organizational waste and transitions to methods to achieving perfection through strong leadership and dissemination and coaching of principles to other employees.
